“If he doesn’t know who he is, ask me who he is” – Borrowing Pappu’s dialogue from the movie Thenmavin Kompath, actress Lena answered the question ‘Who am I?’ Lena says that everyone has one life and is born with different forms and minds. He calls the life within everyone as God. Lena says that ego is the emotion that those who don’t know the answer to when asked a question, so try to know what you don’t know. Lena says that the dialogue in the movie ‘Thenmavin Kompath’ made her sit up and if she doesn’t know who you are, you can tell her if you approach her. The actress was speaking at the Kerala Literature Festival.

“No one can have 100 percent peace unless he knows who says ‘my body and my mind.” When I heard the dialogue in Thenmavin Kombuth, ‘If he doesn’t know who he is, ask me who he is’, I sat down and thought seriously that there was something wrong with this. We all call ourselves I. If we ask who says my body, my mind, we say it is me. Who is sitting inside each body says that this is me. When this one question is answered, everything is answered.

That is what ‘I’ claims in English. It was Ramana Maharshi who first taught us to ask who am I. Whoever asks Ramana Maharshi anything, the bully will ask who is asking this. Many people have died without getting an answer to this. I wondered if I could make it even simpler, so I made the five W’s (who, what, when, where, why) in my book. Asking who you are feels like a personal attack. Change it and ask if everything is a single me and the problem is solved.

Let’s change the question of who you are to what you are. Ask yourself not who I am, but what I am. If we take a stance that “what is the word ‘I'” we will be relaxed. The question will be impersonal. Ego arises when the question becomes personal. Ego is ignorance. If someone doesn’t know something, he gets defensive. Don’t ask me that question, I’ll say no. Because the answer is not known. Ego comes when we ask what things we don’t know. If we do not know something, we should try to understand it. Then our ignorance will decrease and our ego will decrease.

If I say life. I am life. I am the One who moves all minds and bodies. Once I leave that body, I have to destroy that body. So we are not our body, we are not our mind, we are life. We cannot be destroyed. I call that life God. We are all life in many forms. One form is not like another form and nothing thinks and acts alike. Because life does not repeat itself. Life requires many forms and minds. It takes shape here for that.

Everyone takes form not to be the same, but to be like that form. It is our duty to live that life. If life wants to know what life is, it needs a form and lives through it. We are all life that is made to live. That’s how I understand myself. If you don’t understand who you are, ask me and tell me who I am, then everyone will understand that we are all different forms of the same life.”- Lena’s words.
