Don’t underestimate the audience; Vineet Kumar on Dear Friend’s theatrical failure
Tovino Thomas starrer Dear Friend released in theaters on June 10. Starring Arjun Lal, Basil Joseph, Arjun Radhakrishnan and Darshana Rajendran, the film told the story of a few youngsters in the backdrop of Bangalore.
The film left the theater without much success. Later, the film was released on July 10 as an OTT release on Netflix and is now being discussed on social media with great response and audience appreciation.
Now the director Vineet Kumar has answered the question whether the OTT release of the film would have been better. Vineet Kumar answered this question in an interview given to Reporter TV.
Vineeth says that he doesn’t think direct OTT is good and that the movie should be seen in the theater itself, and the audience should not be underestimated.
Vineeth adds that there are different levels of films that are enjoyed in different ways like simple songs and classical music and it is not possible to say that all types of films will satisfy the audience.
‘Initially the intention was to release it in the theatre. We cannot blame the theater audience. Because that’s what they say when they can’t get a movie they want. It’s just that the audience who understood this movie to be like this and enjoyed it that way did not come to the theaters,’ says Vineeth.
Before this, Vineeth also directed Fahadh Faasil as the lead in the film Vhaa Ngavalla. Dear Front is produced by Shaiju Khalid, Sameer Tahir and Ashiq Usman under the banner of Happy Hours Entertainments and Ashiq Usman Productions. The script was written by Sharafu, Suhas and Arjunlal. Deepu Joseph has done the cinematography of the film.
