An article was published here recently regarding the disadvantages of Chinese carswhich makes it seem like they have no advantage.
But these cars have advantages that, while they don’t tip the scales, can sometimes even them out.
I will say right away that I am in no way campaigning for the Chinese, although I have also visited many of them. I just want to speak objectively regarding the benefits they offer.
The main characteristic of the Chinese
Many Chinese cars today are equipped with adaptive cruise control. In some cases it is even included as standard.
When adaptive cruise control is activated, the car “catches up” to the closest car in front of it and, if necessary, brakes and accelerates if the car in front does so. This is a very useful feature on the highway and in traffic jams.
I was only able to evaluate the Jaecoo J7’s adaptive cruise control, and I have no complaints regarding it. He slowly picks up speed and slows down. Although on several occasions my foot hit the brake before the car.
There is nothing unique regarding the option itself. But it was still available in a limited number of cars and was often offered as an extra. The Chinese install an adaptive cruise system in almost every car.
Not a bad light
Most Chinese cars are equipped with LED optics, which normally glow. They’re not terrible halogens, but they’re not advanced German matrix headlights either. But I’m sure they’ll be here soon too.
However, the eyes do not get tired. The road is well lit and the range of light in town is sufficient. However, I can’t say the same regarding the high beams. It seems to me that Chery and Jaecoo lack it.
Speaking of optics, we can also congratulate the Chinese for introducing the PTF activation function when turning. For example, when you turn right, the right fog light turns on automatically. I’ve only seen this option on VAGs and BMWs, it’s good that it’s also available on Chery, Jaecoo, Geely and many other Chinese cars.
Built-in DVR
I think this should be a standard feature on all cars. Unfortunately, it is impossible to travel on our roads without this device.
The main advantage of the built-in DVR is that the car owner does not have to worry regarding it. I just inserted the USB stick and forgot regarding it.
There’s no need to attach anything to the glass (most recorders look terrible), no need to run wires under the case, and no need to think regarding how to power it.
But there will be a dark side to the picture. Some cars, like the Jaecoo J7, don’t have a built-in recorder, but there is a huge socket installed under the rearview mirror, which even contains a fake plastic camera. For what???
Chery, Omoda and Exeed installed the same unit, but only with a real recorder. I don’t understand how difficult it was to install a recorder in Jaecoo, especially since they are all cars from the same company.
Cars are becoming more and more expensive, but even taking into account the rise in prices, the Chinese offer a wide list of options, so the recorder might be left behind.
The mid-size Chinese crossover features dual-zone climate control, 360-degree cameras, wireless phone charging, CarPlay, Android Auto, head-up display, front parking sensors and rear, a large number of car settings, adaptive cruise control and a panoramic system. roof.
This is actually a good list of options. Other manufacturers can’t always offer a similar set of features, and if they can, some of them will come in the form of expensive add-ons or subscriptions.
And this is perhaps the main advantage of the Chinese, confirmed by other people when it comes to cars. The expression “the Chinese captivate you with their options” is heard very often, and for many this is the main argument when choosing a car.
Normal design
Today, we cannot say that Chinese cars are scary. They can have a controversial design, borrowed elements and simply strange color combinations, like the red inserts of the Omoda C5. But on the whole, the cars look modern and no longer cause disgust.
Remember any Chinese car from 15 years ago. Don’t you remember? Well, they looked like this:
It has already been three years since Chinese manufacturers conquered the Russian new car market. And during this period, we can already see how rapidly Chinese companies are developing in the field of design.
A simple example. On the one hand, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and 7 Pro Max. These are two popular crossovers in Russia. The first was released in 2020 and the second in 2021. In other words, the first model is already four years old and the second three.
On the other hand is the Jaecoo J7. In China, it is sold under the Chery Tansuo 06 brand. The model is based on the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and was released in September 2023.
I don’t know regarding you, but I like the Jaecoo J7/Chery Tansuo 06 more than the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and 7 Pro Max. The silhouette became more interesting, retractable handles and beautiful optics appeared.
I made this comparison to clearly show how far the Chinese have progressed in terms of design in recent years. I hope I succeeded.
Instead of exit
I only talked regarding the benefits that I myself might appreciate.
Of course, they are not perfect and the Chinese have something to achieve and improve. But it is considered wrong to talk only regarding the disadvantages in the presence of objective advantages.
For some reason, I am convinced that in a few years the Chinese will be able to improve the quality, add even more useful options, and eventually the cars will become better.
Remember how everyone made fun of Koreans, accusing them of poor quality and copycats. A few years passed and they were able to completely change the approach to creating cars. The same thing will happen to the Chinese.
