Don’t kill the party in Kilden – Read the full article

But also rich in culture, young people and people.

It is precisely the consideration of the unique surroundings on the one hand and the life that is lived on the other that is at stake when some of Aalborg’s politicians want to draw up a local plan for Kildeparken.

The beautiful, old park, which could not be more centrally located than it is, is not only a feast for the eyes. It also contains trees worthy of preservation, which most people with a respect for our past and cultural heritage would naturally like to protect.

Therefore, it makes sense to take special considerations when it comes to using the park for concerts, markets and other activities.

But the park also continues to be perfect for what it was originally created for: to form a framework for the city’s life and people when they have time off and need to relax. Kildeparken is, for example, central when the whole of Aalborg explodes into samba rhythms at the end of May each year for Northern Europe’s biggest carnival.

When the parade of (mostly) young people have finished dancing their way through the center in more or less rhythm, the party ends in Kildeparken.

That’s how it has been until now, when a local plan has come into play.

In the worst case – and this is a real fear of the people behind Karneval in Aalborg – the consideration for the park’s fauna means that it will be impossible to hold the annual party in Kildeparken and thus in Aalborg’s city centre.

Without carnival, Aalborg would lose part of its DNA.

Anyone who has experienced carnival knows that it goes wild, sometimes too wild. It is a violent party with a very high blood alcohol level, but at the same time it is a completely fantastic, fun-loving and inclusive discharge of energy and joy. Once you’ve been there, you’ll never forget it.

At the same time, the city would also be left without a showcase for thousands of young people from all over the country who meet Aalborg for the first time as carnival participants. Some of them come again as students and settle up here.

How big the carnival effect is can be difficult to determine. But Carnival in Aalborg is certainly a bigger attraction factor than even the most beautiful and oldest trees in one of the city’s parks.

Such an event cannot be put on an economic formula, but it is crucial for our city that a local plan for Kildeparken not only protects the unique park, but also creates a framework for the unique piece of culture that is Carnival in Aalborg.

That, after all, is the most important thing.

Because in the end, a city without life and people is a backdrop that loses its legitimacy.
