Diabetes symptoms can be hard to spot because they don’t necessarily make you feel unwell, and below are the three “silent” symptoms of high blood sugar that you shouldn’t ignore, according to express.
Diabetes is a very common condition, but many people don’t even know that they are at risk of developing the condition, due to the many “silent” signs that go unnoticed.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes diagnosed, and it results from the body either struggling to produce enough of the hormone insulin, or the body not reacting to insulin, which is needed to convert blood sugar into usable energy.
Without enough of the hormone, the amount of sugar in your blood can continue to rise, increasing your risk of heart disease or nerve damage.
One of the most common “silent” signs of high blood sugar is an unexplained tingling, a recent study said, according to Wayne UNC Health Care, which is caused by excess blood sugar damaging nerve endings, which can cause you to wake up with Tingling sensation in your feet.
But you may also be at risk of developing diabetes if you start itching more than usual, or if you have bumps or bruises that take longer to heal than usual.
“Diabetes has many early signs, but some of the symptoms are subtle,” the study added, advising those who suffer from some of these subtle symptoms to try a low-carbohydrate diet of protein and green leafy vegetables.
The study also advised avoiding sugary drinks and drinking at least 2 liters of water for a few days to see if these symptoms improve.
She continued, “The hidden symptoms can be the result of eating too many carbohydrates, which can be difficult for your body to deal with.”
She noted that these symptoms do not necessarily mean that you have diabetes, but just because any of these three silent warning signs of diabetes appears, it does not necessarily mean that you have high blood sugar, as the tingling can be caused by poor blood circulation.
Itchy skin might be a sign of eczema or allergies, while wounds that take longer to heal may be caused by poor nutrition.
But, if you notice at least two of these signs at the same time, it may be time to talk to your doctor. Meanwhile, some of the most common signs of diabetes include urination more than usual and blurred vision.
It is worth noting that if diabetes is left untreated, it increases the risk of heart disease or stroke, as well as some cancers and kidney problems.
But you can reduce your risk of developing high blood sugar by making some lifestyle changes. It’s important to eat a healthy, balanced diet and get regular exercise.
