The victim sustained penetrating trauma and fractures. She survived following receiving surgery. The defense argued that the defendant had acted to help his mother.
Hospitalized and with serious injuries was a man who was beaten and stabbed seven times, while he was at his home in the Cecil Rasmussen Population, in Punta Arenas.
According to the records of the Prosecutor’s Office, the author of the attack is the son of the victim’s partner and was formalized for frustrated homicide, remaining in preventive detention while it is investigated.
“Don’t mess with my mom”
The events occurred on Friday followingnoon. According to the investigative file, the victim drank alcoholic beverages in the house that he shares with his partner.
Around 1:40 p.m., the 19-year-old son of his partner arrived at the house. He was accompanied by two other people. “Don’t go overboard with my mom!” He would have yelled at her between insults.
According to the records handled by the prosecution, the defendant drew a knife with a plastic handle and attacked his stepfather. He would have stabbed her seven times in different parts of her body. He also punched her. After the attack, he fled the place with his friends.
The affected man vanished until the arrival of the SAMU nurses. He sustained penetrating chest trauma, a right hemothorax, and fractures to his nose and jaw. He had to undergo surgery at the Hospital Clínico de Magallanes. Currently, he is hospitalized and out of life risk.
While Carabineros was at the scene, the victim’s partner received a call from his son. He would have told him that he had the interest to surrender to the authority. Police officers contacted him and wrote down the address where he was. That same followingnoon he was arrested.
Defense alleges that young man stabbed his stepfather for fear that he would hurt his mother
After a night in detention, the accused was placed at the disposal of the Punta Arenas Guarantee Court. The Prosecutor’s Office charged him with frustrated homicide and requested preventive detention.
“Don Byron’s freedom corresponds to a danger to the security of society, taking into consideration the seriousness of the crime for which he has been formalized,” said prosecutor Manuel Soto.
The defense argued that the precautionary measure was disproportionate. As a theory of the case, they argued that the defendant stabbed his stepfather to defend his mother, who was allegedly a victim of domestic violence.
“He had a history that his mother was constantly being assaulted by her partner. He was afraid that his mother might be injured at the time.”said defender Sebastián Núñez.
The defense’s arguments did not convince the court. According to Judge Juan Villa, “not only was the possibility of killing the affected person represented, but that was its purpose.”
