Don’t disturb your next flight.. Here are tips to avoid painful ear pressure at takeoff

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)–The irritating feeling in your ears that usually accompanies flight departures should not be part of your travel itinerary this summer.

Ear pressure causes temporary discomfort to your ears during a flight, as a result of the rapid change in atmospheric altitude, which raises the air pressure inside the plane, according to the official account of the Saudi Ministry of Health on Twitter.

This condition leads to blockage and ringing in the ears, discomfort or deep pain inside, and dizziness.

Follow these tips to prevent it:

  • frequent yawning
  • Chewing and swallowing during take-off and landing
  • Avoid sleeping during take-off and landing
  • Do not fly if you have sinusitis or nasal congestion
  • Use earplugs to slowly equalize pressure
  • Use decongestants at least 30 minutes before travel
