Which used cars threaten their owners with repair problems: experts have compiled a rating of models that will have to be constantly repaired. All of them are presented in Russia in the secondary market

New cars in Russia have risen in price significantly over the past few years and buyers have turned their attention to the secondary market. The rating of the most problematic cars in the UK under the age of five, which was compiled by Whatcar.com, can make the task of choosing easier. To do this, the experts conducted a survey among 25 thousand local owners of cars of various segments. They were asked to answer the question of what problems they found in the machines over the past two years. On this basis, the compilers of the rating chose the most problematic: all these models can be found in Russia. Understands which models may have problems.

The Peugeot 3008 diesel has been voted the worst family SUV under the age of five. About 40% of the surveyed owners of this model complained of numerous problems with the car. The main complaints of drivers are related to the operation of the suspension. However, motorists also complained regarding unreliable, in their opinion, batteries, engines and brakes.
At the same time, 83% of the owners of this French crossover model admitted that dealers repaired their car for free – under warranty. At the same time, 10% of respondents complained that they had to leave in the service from 1000 to 1500 pounds (100 thousand – 140 thousand rubles). Also, the majority of survey participants said that the repair of the Peugeot 3008 takes a long time – at least one week.

Things are not going well with the reliability of the previous generation Range Rover Evoque crossover. Thus, 35% of the owners of this model have recently been forced to turn to service centers. The most common driver complaints were regarding the performance of the battery, electronics and multimedia system. Slightly fewer motorists complained regarding problems with the exhaust system and air conditioning. For the majority of Range Rover Evoque owners (81%), the repair of the crossover did not cost anything – the costs were covered by the dealer warranty. The rest were forced to pay from 300 to 1500 pounds (30 thousand – 140 thousand rubles). Typically, service center employees spent a little more than a week repairing a car.

Striking styling and an impressive range of options make the Jaguar E-Pace an attractive purchase. However, reliability problems spoiled the experience of many participants in the study of this machine. Almost half of the respondents reported failures in the car’s navigation system and multimedia system. Also, the reliability of the engine and exhaust system caused complaints from motorists. Half of those surveyed said that the repair of the Jaguar E-Pace took more than a week in the service center. At the same time, for almost all drivers, the work was free of charge – also under warranty (98%).
Audi Q3 (2018-present)
43% of the owners of these cars immediately complained regarding problems with the reliability of the German crossover Audi Q3. These cars were sent to service centers due to problems in the electronics, fuel system and engine. And only for 86% of drivers the repair was free. The rest of the motorists were forced to pay from 500 to 1000 (45 thousand – 90 thousand rubles) pounds sterling for work.
BMW X1 (2015-2022)
Repairing a compact crossover BMW X1 with a diesel engine can hit the family budget of car owners hard. The fact is that only 44% of motorists might count on free work. In turn, 13% of drivers said they were forced to pay between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds sterling (100,000-140,000 rubles) for the repair of breakdowns in their X1. All necessary work in most cases was completed within seven days. The most common problems are electronics, engine, batteries.
Volvo XC40 (2017-н.в.)
Among the main advantages of the Swedish Volvo XC40, owners note a roomy trunk, large interior space and high safety. At the same time, the owners of a crossover with a gasoline engine (23%) were not too satisfied with the reliability of the model. So, the drivers drew attention to problems with the engine and batteries. Motorists also noted problems with the car body. At the same time, the owners of the hybrid Volvo XC40 complain much less regarding problems with their crossovers (14%).
For the majority of motorists, car repairs were free (76%). However, some drivers said that the insurance still might not cover the trip to the service center. The amount of repairs in some cases reached up to 1,500 pounds.

Things are not the best with the previous generation Dacia Duster crossover. Most often, the owners of these machines were faced with broken electronics, engine problems, as well as malfunctions of the brake system. As for car repairs, for 83% of Dacia Duster owners it lasted less than a week. In just 50% of cases, Dacia fixed the problems in the cars at its own expense. The other half of those surveyed were left in service centers from 50 to 200 pounds.
Ford Fiesta (2017-present)
The most problematic compact car according to the results of the study was the American Ford Fiesta hatchback. More than 30% of the owners of this model have recently been forced to contact service centers. Most often, the owners of these cars were faced with broken electronics, engine problems, as well as malfunctions of the infotainment system. Moreover, in 30% of cases, these breakdowns did not allow the machine to be operated, and it had to be urgently taken for repair.
Among the pluses – in 90% of cases, Ford fixed problems in cars at its own expense. The remaining 10% of those surveyed left up to £300 in service centers.
Volkswagen Polo (2018 – present)
As noted in the study, the Volkswagen Polo is in high demand in the UK secondary market. The main advantages are low prices for a used car. However, experts advise potential customers to think seriously before buying this German car on the secondary market. The fact is that regarding 37% of sedan owners last year were forced to contact service centers due to various problems with the car. The most common were problems with the engine and air conditioning. Moreover, 50% of respondents said that the work on the car lasted more than a week as a result. True, for 91% the repair was free.
Toyota Yaris (2011-2020)

The weak points of the Toyota Yaris compact hatchback are the suspension and braking system. It was on them during the survey that the majority of motorists complained. More than half of Japanese cars were repaired in service centers in just a few days. However, only 14% of the works were free for owners. However, the cost of repairs for most drivers was not large – less than 300 pounds.
Audi A6 (2018-present)
According to the results of the survey, the Audi A6 sedan of the current generation took first place in the anti-rating of the most problematic premium models. According to the study, 47% of the owners of this German car experienced at least one malfunction during operation in two years. As the owners admit, the incorrect operation of the electronics has become a real headache for them. Motorists also complain regarding the gearbox, engine and multimedia of the car. In 96% of the cost of repairing the Audi A6, the company itself took over. On average, the work of the masters cost other motorists 200-300 pounds.

Also on the list of the most problematic cars was the previous generation Audi A6. Here the main complaint of the drivers was the battery of the sedan. There are also serious problems with the brakes, body and electronics of the A6. The good news is that in half of the cases, repairing a car in a service takes one day. You will have to pay for the work from 500 to 750 pounds.

Problems with the large Jaguar XF sedan were reported by 28% of respondents. The owners of these cars were forced to turn to service centers due to non-working navigation, as well as problems with the engine and brakes. About 70% of drivers have repaired their sedans for free. All the rest in most cases paid insignificant sums for the work.

In the category of premium SUVs, Land Rover Discovery took the first place in the “anti-rating” of used cars. Almost 40% of the owners of the previous generation model complained of numerous problems with the car. The main complaints from motorists are related to the brake system, engine, steering, battery, gearbox and electronics. At the same time, 71% of SUV owners admitted that their car was repaired for free. Among the few positive moments, the owners of Land Rover Discovery noted a fairly prompt repair of their SUVs.
Range Rover (2013-2022)
Also, the owners of the Range Rover crossover complained of serious problems. Moreover, in 30% of cases, breakdowns did not allow the machine to be operated without visiting a service center. Moreover, the repair of cars took quite a long time. Only 8% of motorists said that all work in the service took one day. The main plus is the free repair of Range Rover. Drivers noted problems with the body, interior, engine, exhaust system and brakes.

Immediately 38% of Range Rover Sport owners complained regarding the malfunction of their cars. Their list is traditional: body, engine, interior, brakes, navigation and multimedia system. At the same time, almost all malfunctions (90%) made it possible to continue operating the car and did not require an immediate trip to the service. Approximately 25% of cars needed paid repairs. Prices for the work ranged from £500 to £1,500.
