Don’t be surprised if Márton Simon speaks to you at 4-6

Contemporary poems are performed by their authors on trams 4 and 6 poetry day around. In cooperation between the art-inspired clothing brand Vates and the Budapest Transport Center, passengers can encounter the poems of Zsófi Kemény, Márton Simon and Csaba Szendrői.

For years, BKK has been “poeting” on Budapest’s busiest tram line on the occasion of Poetry Day. This year the Cotton wool art brand and the transport organization company in collaboration with three contemporary authors draw attention to the importance and diversity of Hungarian poetry.

Between April 11 and 13, the traveling public can hear the texts of poet, writer, screenwriter Zsófi Kemény, poet Simon Márton and Csaba Szendrői, frontman and singer-songwriter of the band Elefánt, on one of the busiest lines in the capital, in a performance by the authors.

A poetry week excerpts of poems sung on the occasion each bring a city atmosphere to life on the means of transport.

The aim of the Vates and BKK initiative is to make those traveling in Budapest think for a moment. In an unusual way, the week of poetry this year does not primarily focus on the classics of domestic literature, but introduces the works of contemporary authors to the passengers.

Poetry Day has been celebrated in Hungary since 1964 Attila József’s birthday, on April 11. This important tradition is joined this year by the multi-day campaign of Vates and BKK, in which, in addition to the voice announcement, additional joint content is also being prepared.
