At least 17 people were injured in a shooting at the New York subway in the largest city in the United States on the 12th (local time).
According to New York Police, a man wearing a gas mask detonated a smoke grenade inside a New York subway car this morning and opened fire at passengers.
The incident occurred at 8:24 a.m. on the same day, during rush hour, on the N-line train of the New York Subway.
As the train approached Sunset Park Station in Brooklyn, a man in a construction safety vest put on a gas mask, then pulled a smoke grenade from his bag and detonated it.
The man later opened fire at the passengers.
When the train arrived at the station and the doors of the carriage were opened, astonished passengers rushed out onto the platform with smoke from smoke grenades, and the suspect fled the scene.
Photos and videos taken immediately following the incident showed the platform in a smoky atmosphere, with bleeding wounded victims lying or sitting on the floor in chaos.
Police and fire officials said at least 17 people were injured, of which 10 were shot, Archyde.com reported.
Five of the injured were in serious condition, but not life-threatening, authorities said.
Police are tracking the suspect as a strong man wearing a green vest and hooded sweatshirt worn at the construction site.
Police are said to have recovered various items believed to be in the suspect’s possession, including a pistol and several smoke grenades at the scene.
Police are also said to have secured a rental van with an Arizona license plate, believed to be related to the suspect.
New York Police Commissioner Kichant Sewell said at a press conference that the shooting did not appear to be a terrorist attack, but that the investigation was open to all possibilities.
