The fifth iteration of the Texaco Support for Sport initiative has commenced, inviting applications from sports clubs in Co. Wexford and beyond. A total fund of €130,000 will be meticulously allocated in increments of €5,000, making it possible for successful applicants to harness financial support for their operations in each of Ireland’s twenty-six counties.
The adjudication process will be overseen by Texaco Support for Sport ambassador, renowned broadcaster, and celebrated former Irish rugby international, Donncha O’Callaghan. To date, the funding has benefited a diverse range of sports clubs, encompassing an array of disciplines including archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, bowls, boxing, camogie, climbing, cricket, diving, Gaelic football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, hurling, kayaking, rowing, rugby, soccer, squash, and tennis, among others.
Throughout the past four years, an impressive total exceeding €500,000 has been distributed to more than 100 sports clubs across the nation. Specifically, four successful clubs from Co. Wexford have previously benefited from the initiative, each receiving €5,000 in funding: Kilmore United FC in 2021, Menapians Athletic Club in 2022, Aspire Gymnastics Academy in Kiltealy in 2023, and Naomh Éanna GAA Club in 2024.
Clubs wishing to apply should first express their interest by registering at www.TexacoSupportforSport.com. This should be followed by submitting a filled-out application prior to the deadline, which must detail the nature of their sporting activity, the club’s significance within the local community, the intended purpose of the requested funding, and a clear plan for how the funds will be utilized.
A key requirement for eligibility is that clubs must be properly constituted and possess a valid GS Exemption Number (Games and Sports Exemption Number), which is listed by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners as of June 30th, 2024.
The closing date for applications is set for January 31st, 2025, with the adjudication process commencing shortly thereafter.
