DALLAS (AP) — Luka Doncic scored 23 points following a rare scoreless first quarter and the Dallas Mavericks bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 124-118 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night.

Grant Williams added 18 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and rookie Dereck Lively II had 15 points, 14 rebounds and a big blocked shot in the fourth quarter.

LaMelo Ball had 23 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter to go with his 13 assists, but the Hornets mightn’t maintain their 15-point first-half lead one night following rallying in the fourth quarter to pull out a one-point win in Indiana.

The Hornets had a chance to tie it following Dallas committed a shot clock violation with 8.4 seconds left. But rookie Brandon Miller mightn’t score the ball before the five-second signal and Ball fouled Kyrie Irving before Dallas resumed action.

Irving’s free throw gave the Mavericks a 120-116 lead and they kept the ball, then he made two extra free throws with 7.7 seconds left to seal Dallas’ sixth victory of the season.
