Volkklingen. In a campaign organized at short notice, the members of the UNESCO working group of the Warndt-Gymnasium collected relief supplies for refugees from Ukraine in cooperation with the Ukraine-Saarland-Berlin initiative.
The Warndt-Gymnasium is known for its close cooperation with students and parents. The head of the UNESCO working group became aware of a call for donations from the Ukraine-Saarland-Berlin association, in which Sabine Schommer from the parents’ representative is volunteering.
She forwarded the appeal that hygiene articles and baby food were urgently needed for refugees from the Ukraine directly to the members of her working group, who in turn passed it on to their classmates. In this way, a considerable amount of donations might already be collected during the long breaks, which the older students who are involved in the working group brought to the association’s central collection point in their private cars on the same day.
According to Schommer, the items collected will initially be sent via the association to around 80 people from Ukraine who are already there. The rest will go to the Polish border in a large delivery and will be distributed to collection points there.red./dos
