according to”The Straits Times“Reported that a 27-year-old man who had been working in Singapore for a long time had sex with his girlfriend and a man of the same sex in February and August 2020 respectively. On October 8 of the same year, he went to the hospital to donate blood. At that time, medical staff reminded him that the man must clearly declare his health status. If he found out that he had concealed something, he would be prosecuted at any time.

However, the man did not take it seriously, and still did not mention on the health declaration form that he had more than one sexual partner and had sex with the same sex in the past year, so he continued to donate blood. Before the man left, the medical staff repeatedly reminded him that if he found any problem with his blood, he might also call the 24-hour hotline to notify the authorities.

Later, when the hospital tested the man’s blood, it found that he was infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), so he hurriedly asked him to meet for details. At this time, the man confessed that he had had sexual relations with two partners of the opposite sex and the same sex. The hospital immediately notified the Singapore Department of Health and charged the man with violating the Infectious Diseases Act.

The court considered the case on the 3rd of this month. The man’s defense lawyer Victoria Tay pleaded that the man had been unemployed for nearly two years because of his foreign nationality and HIV infection, and his past savings had been exhausted. Therefore, he begged the judge not to impose a fine.

Because the judge believed that the man’s behavior might damage the public’s confidence in blood donation activities, although the man pleaded guilty immediately, in order to deter him, he was finally sentenced to 3 months and 14 days in prison and will start serving his sentence on May 3. .
