Donate Blood for Children Battling Cancer

Blood Drive Aims to Support Children Battling Cancer

This Saturday, the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) is calling on the community to participate in a crucial blood donation campaign. The donated blood will be used to aid children with cancer who are receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Tijuana.

Support Needed For Young Patients

The initiative is a joint effort between the UABC Ensenada campus, the School of Health Sciences, and the Issste Clinic. Understandably, these young patients require blood transfusions during their treatment journey, and the drive aims to ensure a steady supply of this essential resource.

Who Can Donate?

Those interested in making a difference should meet the following requirements: be between 18 and 65 years old; weigh more than 52 kilos with clothing; women should not be breastfeeding, pregnant, or have given birth within the last six months. Additional requirements include having not received vaccinations within the past 12 months, being free from infectious diseases and any current medical treatments, not having consumed alcohol or drugs in the last two weeks, and not having undergone major surgery in the past six months.

If a person has tattoos, piercings, acupuncture treatments, Botox treatments, or facial fillers, those must have been done more than one year ago. Earrings in mucosal areas like the nose, mouth, or genitals need to be removed three days before donating. Donors should fast for at least four hours before donating but are encouraged to drink water and eat fruit before their appointment.

Donation Locations and Information

Those who meet these requirements and would like to participate should report to the blood bank at either of the two designated locations – Issste facilities and the General Hospital of Ensenada – on November 30th starting at 8:00 AM. Remember to bring official identification (voter ID, card, passport, license, or professional ID). Proper personal hygiene, comfortable clothing, and a well-rested state are also essential.

Individuals interested in participating and requiring additional information can contact Dr. Citlalli García Loaiza directly at (646) 1724870.
