Former US President and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump reactivated his profile on social network X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, August 12, from which he was suspended in 2021 after his supporters stormed the Capitol.
Trump, who has more than 88 million followers on X, made this decision less than three months before the presidential elections on November 5, in which he will face the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris.
“Are you better off now than when I was president? Our economy is in tatters. Our border is erased. We are a nation in decline,” he said in a message that has accumulated tens of thousands of interactions.
“Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again! Make America SAFE again! Make America GREAT again!” the former president added.
In addition to this message, Trump shared several posts of his election video ads.
Are you better off now than you were when I was president?
Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We’re a nation in decline.
Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again!

X, then known as Twitter, decided to suspend Trump’s account in January 2021, amid political tension arising from the 2020 presidential election and the assault on the Capitol by his supporters.

His last message, on January 8, 2021, was: “To all those who have asked, I will not be attending (Joe Biden’s) inauguration on January 20th.”
To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.

In late 2022, after acquiring the social network for US$44 billion, billionaire Elon Musk ordered Trump’s account to be restored, but the former president, who had created his own social network, Truth Social, chose to leave it inactive.
He had only posted one message since then. It was in August 2023, when he shared his mugshot from the criminal case against him in the state of Georgia with the text: “Election interference. Never give up.”

Trump will be interviewed by his ally Elon Musk live on X
The date chosen for the return coincides with a talk that Trump and Musk will have on Monday night, August 12, at X, the latter having repeatedly expressed his ideological closeness to the former president.

“This is unscripted and unlimited in topics, so should be very entertaining,” Musk, who has been accused of using the social network as a loudspeaker for far-right conspiracy theories since acquiring Twitter, tweeted on Sunday.
The interview will be broadcast at 00:00 GMT on Tuesday 13th via the candidate’s official account @realDonaldTrump, who before the interview posted on X for the first time in more than a year.

The message includes a video in which he portrays himself as a victim of persecution by interests that want to “destroy” the United States.
Musk has become a fierce critic of current Democratic President Joe Biden, posting messages to his more than 194 million followers on X in which he criticizes the president’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, as well as his immigration policies.
The founder of Tesla and SpaceX publicly endorsed Trump’s campaign minutes after the latter suffered an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump’s campaign is making efforts to increase its presence on social media in an attempt to stem the rise in the polls of his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced Biden as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the Nov. 5 election.
As part of this strategy, the Republican candidate received influencer Adin Ross at his Mar-a-Lago property in Florida, whose broadcasts streaming were suspended several times for their “hateful conduct.”
