Donald Trump moderates his tone

WASHINGTON (EFE and AP).— The former president of the United States and Republican candidate, Donald Trump, said yesterday that he received a “very kind call” from his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, to worry about his condition after what seemed to be the second assassination attempt he suffered on Sunday.

“I received a very kind call from Kamala,” said the New York magnate during a talk moderated by the governor of Arkansas, Republican Huckabee Sanders, in Michigan, a decisive state for the November elections.

The crowd booed when Trump said the vice president’s name, but he insisted that Kamala was “very nice.”

The Republican’s words contrast with the accusations he launched on Monday, when he blamed Kamala Harris’ “lies” and “communist rhetoric” for her second assassination attempt.

Trump suggested yesterday that foreign countries upset with his tariff promises could be behind the assassination attempt. “Then they wonder why they shoot me. “Only important presidents get shot,” he said.

Hours earlier, Kamala revealed that she called Trump and stressed that “there is no place for political violence” in the United States.

During a conversation with the Association of African American Journalists, the vice president expressed her confidence in the Secret Service, an agency that is in the spotlight for the two assassination attempts that Trump has suffered in two months.

And he warned that Republicans have put the safety of migrants at risk by spreading the lie that Haitians eat neighbors’ pets in Springfield, Ohio, a deliberate falsehood that has triggered threats against this community.

“Not everyone has a Secret Service. There are too many people who do not feel safe in our country,” Kamala said.

At a campaign event yesterday Tuesday in Wisconsin, the Republican candidate for Vice President, JD Vance, once again blamed the Democrats for the attempted assassination of Trump and once again criticized the Haitian migrants in Springfield.

Kamala’s “number two”, Democrat Tim Walz, responded at a rally in North Carolina that Vance is dedicated to “making up stories.”

A man was arrested on Sunday carrying an assault rifle near the golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump was and who allegedly wanted to end the former president’s life.

It is the second assassination attempt that the Republican has suffered so far in the electoral campaign after the one that occurred in July at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a man shot Trump, wounding him in the ear.
