Donald Trump Detained at Fulton County Jail: Latest Updates on His Fourth Criminal Charge and Election Rigging Accusations

Former US President Donald Trump was briefly detained following turning himself in to authorities at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia on Thursday. There he was booked by the judicial authorities for his fourth criminal charge in which he is accused of trying to rig the 2020 elections. After a few minutes he was released following paying a $200,000 bail.

Trump arrived aboard his private plane at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport at 7:07 p.m. local time (8:07 p.m. in Argentina). Shortly following, he got into a car that took him to jail. The tycoon was in custody for a few minutes, but he was released following his fingerprints and a mugshot were taken.

The former Republican president is charged with 13 crimes for having tried to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential elections in that state, where Democrat Joe Biden won by a narrow margin of just two tenths, the closest margin in the entire country.

Trump arrived and left Fulton prison in an armored car convoy and escorted by the Secret Service, which is in charge of his security.

Along with him are 18 other defendants. This is the fourth criminal charge once morest the former president, but the first that leads him to go to jail, since in the previous three he was summoned for an arraignment in court.

County Sheriff Pat Labat said Trump was required to present identification, was fingerprinted and had a frontal photo taken.

What is Donald Trump accused of?

The former president is designated for authorship or participation in 13 different positions. The cause is complex. Trump and the other defendants are accused of operating as “a criminal organization whose members and associates engaged in various related criminal activities” to try to change the election results.

The charges include falsifying documents and statements, impersonation of a public official, attempted bribery of witnesses, computer theft, conspiracy to defraud the state, and acts related to theft and perjury.

According to the prosecution, Trump called the Secretary of State of Georgia, Brad Raffensperger, and asked him to “seek” the votes that were necessary to nullify Biden’s victory in the state in the 2020 elections.

Among those charged, in addition to the former president, is his former personal lawyer and former New York mayor, Rudy Giuliani, and his former chief of staff Mark Meadows.
