Dominican Soto and Puerto Rican Lindor light the Latin flame in the Major Leagues

Sports Desk, Jul 22 (EFE).- Dominican Juan Soto and Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor were in charge of lighting the Latin flame this Monday in the Major Leagues with their batting exhibitions.

YANKEES 9-1 RAYS

Dominican Juan Soto hit two homers and drove in four runs, and Cuban Carlos Rodón (10-7) pitched seven innings with 10 strikeouts and one run, ending a streak of five losses in six starts, and in this way the New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays.

Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe hit back-to-back homers, DJ LeMahieu added another shot and Venezuelan Oswaldo Cabrera drove in two runs to join the Yankees attack.

Dominican José Siri hit the ball out of the park for the Rays.

MARLINS 4-6 METS

Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor sent the ball out of the park twice and Jeff McNeil drove in three runs as the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins.

Cubans José Iglesias, with a run scored and an RBI, and JD Martínez, with one run, contributed to the Mets’ victory, who had the save for Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz (12), who allowed one run in one inning with one strikeout.

Josh Bell and Bryan de la Cruz hit home runs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Yonny Chirinos (0-2), who was scored on five times in five innings, from losing the game for the Marlins.

REALES 10-4 DIAMONDBACKS

The Venezuelan Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. each hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the Kansas City Royals over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Hunter Renfroe homered and Maikel Garcia scored once for the Royals.

Dominican Ketel Marte, with a two-run homer, and Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez, with an RBI, supported also Venezuelan Yilber Díaz (1-1) who they hit with seven runs for the Diamondbacks.

GUARDIANS 2-8 TIGERS

Dominican Wenceel Perez scored three times and produced a run, Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a two-run homer and Colombian Gio Urshela drove in two runs to lead the Detroit Tigers’ offense in their victory over the Cleveland Guardians.

The Venezuelan Carlos Carrasco (3-8) was hit with six runs in 5.1 innings and struck out six rivals, to end up taking the loss for the Guardians, who had one RBI by Dominican Jose Ramirez.

PIRATES 2-1 CARDINALS

Dominicans Oneil Cruz and Nick Gonzales drove in one run each and this was enough for the Pittsburgh Pirates to narrowly beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cuban reliever Aroldis Chapman (2-4) pitched one inning of pitching and got the win for the Pirates.
Nolan Gorman homered for the Cardinals.

BRAVES 1-4 REDS
Will Benson deposited the ball into the stands and Dominican Jeimer Candelario drove in his compatriot Elly de la Cruz twice, to support the Cincinnati Reds in their duel with the Atlanta Braves.

For the Reds, Puerto Rican Fernando Cruz pitched one scoreless inning and his compatriot Alexis Díaz allowed one run in one inning on the mound.

Dominican Reynaldo Lopez (7-4) allowed four walks to the plate in the six innings he pitched and struck out five batters to lose the game, in which Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario drove in one run for the Braves.

Cubs 3-1 Brewers

Ian Happ hit a home run and Michael Busch drove in Panamanian Miguel Amaya to be the key figures in the Chicago Cubs’ defense of their home against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dominican Hector Neris (14) pitched the ninth without allowing any runs, to earn the save.

Dominican Willy Adames homered to score the only run in the game for the Brewers.
