Dominican Republic closes its embassy in Venezuela

The Dominican Republic’s Foreign Ministry reported on its social media that both its Embassy and Consulate General of the Dominican Republic have closed their doors in Venezuela.

The decision is in response to “recent measures announced by the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

“If Dominicans living in Venezuela require any assistance, they can contact Mr. Isidro Castillo, through the email and phone number that we provide,” they report at X.

Regarding “Dominicans who deposited their passports at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Santo Domingo. Starting this Wednesday, July 31, these documents will be returned to their owners at the Consular Services Directorate of the #MIREXRD, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.”

They also report that “the status of your request is not the responsibility of the Dominican Government. We appreciate your understanding!”

It is worth noting that Venezuela decided to break diplomatic relations with the seven countries that issued statements against the election results, including Panama and the Dominican Republic.
