Dominican President demands respect for the results of the Venezuelan people

The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, took office this Friday, August 16, for the period 2024-2028 and in his inauguration speech He made special mention of the political situation in Venezuela.

“In Venezuela, after the announced result of the elections of July 28, without the due transparency required by an electoral process and no documentary support from the authorities, they are in a serious crisis that leads us to demand the publication of all the electoral records and their verification by impartial institutions and respect for the result emanating from the will of the Venezuelan people.”he said, followed by great applause from those present.

The president also referred to the issue of repression: “The attacks against democratic institutions and the use of political violence that we are seeing in Venezuela are highly reprehensible. These actions are profoundly unjust and destroy the social and political achievements achieved through the efforts of generations. The Dominican Republic will always be on the side of democracy, wherever, whenever and with whomever.”.

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado thanked Abinader on her Twitter account for his words “for assuming this clear position in defense of truth and popular sovereignty.”

The inauguration of the Dominican president was attended by a large number of heads of state and government, some of whom showed Their willingness to discuss the Venezuelan case among themselves taking advantage of the coincidence in Santo Domingo.
