On June 24, Les Violons du Roy will launch the 45th edition of the Domaine Forget International Music Festival with a tribute concert to Gilles Vigneault.

Presented for the first time on May 19, 2022, during a benefit event for Les Violons du Roy at the Palais Montcalm, this creation entitled Le voyageur will present songs by Vigneault delivered in symphonic orchestrations by François Vallières.

Actors Marie-Thérèse Fortin and Normand Chouinard will take part in this concert, presented at 4 p.m., under the direction of guest conductor Mélanie Léonard.

The Orchester symphonique de Québec and the Orchester Métropolitain (OM) will also perform during this 45th edition, which will take place from June 24 to August 19 in the municipality of Saint-Irénée in Charlevoix.

Under the direction of conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the OM will have a first meeting with Quebec pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin. A meeting that the orchestra has been trying, without success, to secure for 10 years. It will take place on July 23 at 3 p.m.

The Festival’s new ambassador, Marc Hervieux, will be at the center of a big Italian party on August 11, accompanied by eight musicians, made up of Neapolitan and Sicilian songs.

“Italian music is very much associated with difficult love stories that start badly and get worse. In Italian operas, you always lose the soprano at the end. I wanted to explore the other side with a concert almost exclusively of Italian festive music,” said the tenor and director general of the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec, during the unveiling of the program.

A unique concert on July 21 will celebrate 40 years of double bass at Domaine Forget. There will be 25 double bass players on stage, including the masters Paul Ellison and François Rabbath, “youths” aged 81 and 92 respectively.

“If you’ve never attended a concert with 25 double bass players, it’s spectacular. We don’t come out unscathed. It will be something very strong, ”said Édith Allaire, associate artistic director.

The festival will present, on July 14, the farewell concert of the American formation Emerson String Quartet which, following 47 years, bows out.
