Alex Douglas was a big surprise when Jon Dahl Tomasson took out his first national team squad for competition.
In May 2022, Alex Douglas was recruited from Hammarby TFF to Västerås SK and was so successful in this year’s Allsvenskan that he moved to the Polish league in July.
The contract with the Swedish club and the Polish table Lech Poznan is written over three seasons.
– It has gone quickly for him and he is doing really well in Poland. We have seen all the games with him. He goes forward, is brave with the ball and quick. Now he plays in a tough league and a big club, so the day-to-day operations are a big change. We want to see him, but he has done well and we have spoken to his coach, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
“Be a little quiet”
The mother club is Brommapojkarna, as a 14-year-old he went on to Hammarby.
After that, there have also been stays in Spanish San Roque de Lepe, FC Stockholm and IFK Eskilstuna.
– I called him. He was a bit quiet, but it was good talk. He was a little surprised and extremely proud. I knew he would react that way. It’s been really fast for him, so we’ll see how that handles and we don’t know that yet. That’s why you have to give people the chance, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
“Has a good grasp”
Among the defenders, Victor LIndelöf Nilsson, Emil Holm and Hjalmar Ekdahl are missing.
– I know Lech Poznan’s sporting director well and also coach Niels Frederiksen. We are well aware of Alex Douglas and have seen his matches now that he has gone abroad. I’ve seen his matches and I think he should play the way I want to play and fit well into that, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.
After five international training matches under Jon Dahl Tomasson, Sweden will play in the Nations League against Azerbaijan in Baku on Thursday 5 September and Estonia at the Strawberry Arena on Sunday 8 September.
