A 52-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing a banned attack dog and an out-of-control animal, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place in Bedworth near Coventry on Friday. The arrested woman was taken to a hospital for injuries caused by the dog. These are not life-threatening, it said. The dog was recovered and taken to a facility. “This was a tragic isolated incident and a full investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances,” said a police spokesman.
Incidents involving dogs, in which people are injured or even killed, are a regular occurrence in Great Britain. A seven-year-old boy and two men were attacked and injured by a German shepherd in London on Wednesday. The mother of a 10-year-old who was bitten to death by a dog the year before last is now publicly calling for tougher dog laws in the country.
According to the PA news agency, 15 people have been killed by dogs in Great Britain since the boy’s death in November 2021. Almost 22,000 people were injured by dogs in the past year alone.
