Lamborghini’s plans to include a purely electric model in its lineup are taking shape. This manifests itself with the presentation of the Lanzador concept during Monterey Car Week. The grand tourer has high ground clearance, 2+2 seats and 23-inch wheels. It merges style elements from the Urus and the Sián, while displaying its own visual identity.
A step towards electrical performance
While it’s not Lamborghini’s first electric concept, like 2017’s Terzo Millennio concept, the Lanzador clearly showcases the Italian automaker’s serious efforts in electric performance.
Power and Mystery: Electrical Characteristics
However, Lamborghini remains reserved on details such as range, battery, charging capacity and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. Despite this, the brand unveiled an intriguing element: the Lamborghini Lanzador can generate “peak power of more than one megawatt”. This is equivalent to 1,341 mechanical horsepower. This positions it between a Lucid Air Sapphire (920 kW) and a Tesla Roadster (1,100 kW).
Unique and scalable drive
The Lamborghini Lanzador driving experience promises to be unique. Of the additional sensors and actuators will be integrated with Driving Dynamics Control to ensure an optimal experience. The vehicle’s computer algorithm uses the data to provide a nuanced driving experience that improves over time.
Aerodynamics and performance
The Lamborghini Lanzador has been carefully designed to optimize aerodynamics, improving handling and range. Air resistance can be adjusted according to driver preferences.
A system similar to that of the Huracán Performante and the Aventador SVJ was incorporated. In addition, new active aerodynamic devices have been added to the front and rear.
Inspired aesthetics and technical features
The hexagon-shaped rear lights with three LED elements on each side are inspired by the Countach LPI 800-4. The 23-inch wheels give the Lamborghini Lanzador higher ground clearance than other Lamborghini models, reminiscent of the Urus SUV.
Strategic Electrification of Lamborghini
Unlike previous electric concepts, the Lanzador foreshadows what is to come for Lamborghini. The brand is committed to a €1.9 billion electrification strategy ($2 billion) over two years. Lamborghini plans to introduce gasoline-electric hybrid versions for its entire lineup first. Then, in 2028, the brand will present a fourth fully electric model.
The Lanzador: A vision of the future
The Lamborghini Lanzador embodies the possibilities offered by this upcoming model. As this is a concept, it is still too early to focus on specific performance or battery specs. However, the fact that Lamborghini has unveiled a 1MW peak power specification indicates how powerful future vehicles will be.
