Does covid-19 affect men’s sexual capacity? This is what science says

The impact of covid-19 has various levels of severity that can range from the complete absence of symptoms to systemic complications with fatal outcomes.

The epidemic evolution has shown that this disease can cause damage not only in the lungs, but also can cause simultaneous or separate alterations in the heart, kidneys, brain, blood, which can even remain for a long time following recovery.

According to the World Organization (WHO), today there is talk of “prolonged covid” which for many experts is the health challenge that many countries are beginning to face.

A study published a few months ago in the medical journal New England Journal of Medicine It noted that between 20 and 30 percent of those infected with the virus may experience debilitating symptoms several months following infection with significant degrees of disability resulting from ailments and conditions in different organs.

Some of the manifestations that have been found is that some men express changes in their sexual functions following Sars-CoV-2 infection, so much so that in the case of erectile dysfunction, some studies suggest that it might be six times more likely in those who they suffered from covid-19.

Some of these studies have also hinted that the duration of this symptom is variable and may be transient or long lasting.

Testicular pain and swelling

Other analyzes have reported other post-Covid alterations that have an impact, like erectile dysfunction, on male sexual capacity, such as testicular pain and inflammation, difficulties reaching orgasms, low quantification of testosterone levels and, of course, some affectations in the emotional health such as anxiety and depression that affect this area.

For their part, the vaccines once morest covid-19 have not been shown within a framework of evidence to cause these symptoms.

For now, the impact of Sars-CoV-2 on the sexual capacity of both men and women is a subject that is being studied because until now the true impact of a virus that affects everyone equally is beginning to be known.

In this sense, specialists recommend that any discomfort of this type, however minor it may seem, warrants a medical evaluation.
