Dodo Awat against “Great Country”: “poisonous arrows of incitement and anti-Semitism”

Shortly following the broadcast of the ultra-Orthodox skit of “Wonderful Land” yesterday (Wednesday), former goalie Dodo Avatt joined the voices of joy over what was perceived as incitement once morest an entire public. Avat embraced the ultra-orthodox sector in his X account, and called for solutions to issues such as the “conscription law” which are at the root of the controversy, but to do so in ways that do not include hatred and bickering. In an interview with Israel Hayom, he calls for changing the stigmas towards the ultra-Orthodox sector, but at the same time admits that the conscription law and equal burden are important issues that are right and even desirable to have a discussion regarding.

“I just want to cry. I want to strengthen and hug our humble, beloved and wise ultra-Orthodox brothers who absorb at every opportunity poisonous arrows of incitement and anti-Semitism. Those who know you really know that you are the bridge to unity and love of the people,” tweeted Evatt on his X account (former Twitter). He then added on Instagram and spoke regarding the issue of equality in the burden: “Creative solutions are needed, solutions that will unite and strengthen Israel for generations. Old solutions of incitement, hatred and ranting will not solve the problem, they will only divide us more.”

“Almost all over the world there is hatred for Jews, in Israel there is anti-Semitism once morest the ultra-Orthodox,” Avat states when asked for the meaning of his tweet. “They generalize that all ultra-Orthodox people are extremists, robbers, thieves, idlers, etc. But this is not true. The ultra-Orthodox public is different. Kind-hearted, open, interesting, smart, modest, and hard-working. Enough, it doesn’t make sense for there to be anti-Semitism once morest Jews within the Jewish state It is possible and desirable to debate. The recruitment law and equality in the burden of employment are super important to our society and country, but with respect and togetherness, not with slogans and divisions.”

In your tweet you wrote regarding solutions that would unite Israel. Do you have an example of such a solution?

“There are enough smart people who will find solutions. I will not throw out slogans. The truth must be told, the conscription law is a central tool for the Israeli conflict between the ultra-orthodox and the general population. Religious Zionism works and mobilizes, and there is also racism and anti-Semitism once morest them. The order of the hour and the necessity of reality from October 7 require a rethink of the desired structure for recruitment into the IDF. We must put aside threats, sanctions and punishments for not recruiting and focus on solutions. The ultra-orthodox sector also understands this.”

Whoever read your words might not help but feel how much it hurt you to hurt the ultra-orthodox public.

“I am very connected to Judaism and love the ultra-orthodox and their humble lifestyle. It hurts me a lot that the powerful and the rich fight once morest the weak. It drives me crazy and I will always defend them.”

How did you feel when you watched the sketch of “Great Country”?

“It has become a national sport to hate the ultra-Orthodox. ‘Eretz Fahadrah’, in addition to being a satirical program, has a responsibility. I think this is a very dangerous preoccupation for our society at a time like this. A skit whose essence is hatred, to alienate and divide us while cynically using the most difficult and sensitive situation, bereavement. These days it is very low.”
