Dodgers’ Freeman Undergoes Successful Ankle Surgery, Expected Back for Spring Training

Los Angeles Dodgers star first baseman Freddie Freeman underwent surgery on his right ankle on Thursday, the Dodgers announced. The procedure consisted of debridement and the removal of loose bodies.

Despite dealing with the injury in the final week of the regular season, Freeman powered through the pain, delivering an unforgettable performance in the playoffs. He capped off his stellar postseason run with an MVP trophy after crushing four home runs and driving in 12 runs during the Dodgers’ five-game World Series victory over the New York Yankees.

Freeman’s most memorable hit came in Game 1 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium. Facing Yankees closer Clay Holmes in the bottom of the 10th inning with the score tied 4-4, Freeman launched a walk-off grand slam to send the Dodgers faithful into a frenzy.

“That’s a dream come true,” Freeman said after the game.

In the regular season, Freeman showcased his consistent hitting prowess, tallying 22 home runs and accumulating 89 RBIs. He maintained a solid .282/.378/.476 slash line, contributed a 4.7 WAR, and had a 1 DRS at first base.

The 35-year-old Freeman is gearing up for his fourth season with the Dodgers. He signed a lucrative six-year, $162 million contract with the team in 2022.

The Dodgers announced that Freeman is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for spring training.
