Dodgers and Cubs to kick off 2025 MLB season in Tokyo

Sports Desk, Jul 18 (EFE).- The Major League Baseball organization announced on Thursday its schedule for the 2025 season, which will begin with two games in Japan between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs.

The series, which will feature Dodgers’ Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Cubs’ Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki, will be played on March 18 and 19 at the Tokyo Dome.

The Dodgers will host the first series of the season for the second consecutive year, following doing so this year in Seoul, South Korea, once morest the San Diego Padres.

Ohtani is one of the leading figures in baseball today, so MLB is betting that by bringing him to play in front of the Japanese public in a Dodgers uniform, it will ensure a successful start to the 2025 season and continue its strategy of bringing baseball to other territories outside the United States.

Japan has hosted the MLB season opener six times, the first coming in 2000 when the Cubs took on the New York Mets in Tokyo.

After the preamble in Japan between the Dodgers and the Cubs, the official opening of the season is scheduled for March 27, the date on which the 30 teams that belong to the Major Leagues will go into action.

2025 All-Star Game

The All-Star Game, which this year took place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home of the Rangers, will be held on July 15 next year at Truist Park in Atlanta, home of the Braves.

According to the schedule, the regular season phase is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, September 28, giving way to the postseason.

If a division title or postseason spot is still up for grabs at the end of the calendar year, it will be decided by head-to-head matches, MLB explained.
