Dodge introduced the Charger Daytona SRT electric muscle car – it received a gearbox and an exhaust system

Stellantis presented information and showed the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT concept car, which is a prototype of the future electric Dodge Charger, preparing to hit the assembly line in 2024. The car tries to follow the canons of the design of this model, while retaining the sensations appreciated by fans of American muscle cars, such as a loud exhaust sound and jerky when shifting gears.

It is known that traction motors produce maximum torque over the entire operating speed range, but this does not mean that designers refuse to use gearboxes in electric vehicles. They are needed not only by Rimac hypercars, but also by the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT electric sports coupe. According to the developers of the latter, the multi-speed gearbox was added to the electric car solely to preserve the classic feeling during acceleration. At the same time, a special button for instant acceleration was placed on the steering wheel, which gives the power plant the maximum acceleration impulse.

Nothing really is reported directly regarding the power plant – it is only known that it provides for operation with a voltage of 800 volts and all-wheel drive. The dynamics of this electric car should remain at the level of the best representatives of the classic family. This means that the car will change from 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

A design feature of the electric version of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT is the wing integrated into the hood profile, which allows, while maintaining the classic profile of the car, to increase downforce and improve aerodynamics.

Another feature is a specially designed exhaust system, which an electric car does not need functionally, but in this case it allows you to create sound effects with a volume of up to 126 dB, and not due to the speakers, as one might assume, but precisely by venting air through a kind of “brass instrument” with many baffles and resonating chambers.

There are no special frills in the interior of the car, except for the panoramic glass roof and four separate seats, as well as lighting. The display in front of the driver’s eyes has a diagonal of 16 inches, it is combined with a 12.3-inch display in the center console and a head-up display with a working space of 200 × 75 mm.

With Dodge aiming to end production of gas-powered muscle cars by 2024, it makes sense to expect an electric version of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT in 2024. The price and main characteristics of the future electric car are not disclosed.
