A long time ago — in 2018, more specifically — we covered a documentary regarding the Apple Newton, a device that is considered a precursor to the iPhone and iPad. Before only available to those who bought it, the film was, five years later, now available for free on YouTube.

“Love Notes to Newton” — or “Notas de Amor para o Newton”, in free translation — is just under an hour and a half long and its main proposal is to show how Apple’s personal digital assistant was and is loved by practically everyone who has ever used it. .

The Apple Newton was loved by almost everyone who owned one. It came from an R&D group hidden deep within Apple Computer and was developed by people who believed it was the next big thing in computing. In a sense, it was the legendary device that coined the term “PDA”Personal digital assistantor personal digital assistant.”>1 in the early nineties, and in another sense it was a devastating failure that came before its time.

The free release of “Love Notes to Newton” it’s not by chance. This month marks exactly 30 years since the Apple Newton was launched. Although its announcement was made more than a year earlier, the device officially hit stores on March 3, 1993.

With a price not at all accessible and some problems at launch, the device was discontinued a few years later, with the return of Steve Jobs to Apple – even though it was, at the time, recognized as innovative.
