Car burglars compete in ingenuity and bypass the anti-theft devices put in place by manufacturers… In less than a minute, criminals have managed to start cars deemed to be ultra-secure thanks to a tampered enclosure sold on the internet.
Last generation car theft alert. A month ago, the gendarmes of Chaumes-en-Brie in Seine-et-Marne arrested two individuals during a refusal to comply. According to our information, they were driving a Peugeot 2008 reported stolen. On their phone, the investigators discovered several photos of vehicles stolen recently in the Paris region. On clichés, this question: “It starts at the JBL, that?”.
“Document Europe 1”: the JBL enclosure seized by the gendarmes.
A mention that puts the chip in the ear of the gendarmes, because during the search of the car, they discovered a portable Bluetooth speaker of the same brand. They open it and realize that it has been tampered with. Inside, a quick start electronic key is then discovered. The gendarmes do a quick search on the Internet and come across a site that sells this rigged speaker for €5,000.
Quick Start Kit
In support, a video uploaded in March 2022 in which we can see the disconcerting ease and speed with which thieves start vehicles.
“Document Europe 1”: the cable seized by the police with the enclosure.
Simply connect the speaker containing the quick-start kit to the car’s electronic device with the USB cable to start it in just 40 seconds. The vehicles potentially vulnerable to this technique would be those of the Toyota and Lexus brand, indicate the criminals. The gendarmes call for vigilance. A dissemination note was even sent to the brigades.
