Doctor teaches formula to control binge eating

Have you ever “stuck your foot in the jackfruit”? The expression is often used by people who seek to lose weight, but end up escaping the diet and committing excesses in food. Whether to celebrate a special event, to reward yourself following a long day at work or even to face sadness and anxiety.

This behavior jeopardizes all the progress achieved with the diet and can cause the dreaded accordion effect. To maintain a disciplined diet and avoid overeating, endocrinologist Gabriela Iervolino, a member of the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM), reveals a method she created for herself.

“Since I’ve lived it myself, I know how everything happens and I ended up developing a method that I call jacada levels. These are food stages you will try to consume before you reach your worst. These levels are very individual and you will know how to set up your levels”, explains the doctor.

According to the expert, it is recommended to wait 20 to 30 minutes between one level and another for your body to realize that you ate that food.

”My worst level is eating a very stuffed cookie that I love, but before I get to that I have a few steps. My first level is to consume 6 squares of 70% semisweet chocolate and wait 20 minutes to see if that satisfies me. My second step is eating bananas with a chocolate peanut butter spread. The third is to eat a protein bar that I love. And finally there would be the cookie, a level I almost never reach because somewhere in the previous stages I was already satisfied”, exemplifies Gabriela.
