Doctor suffered a facial fracture after being attacked in Rionegro hospital

A new case of aggression against the medical mission caused outrage in Rionegro (Eastern Antioquia), after an employee of the San Juan de Dios Hospital received blows that caused a fracture in his face.

The fact was confirmed and rejected by the Secretary of Health of that municipality, Jorge Rivas, who called on the public to respect and surround the work of the Medical Mission.

From the Association of Social Enterprises of the State of Antioquia (Aesa) they also spoke out rejecting the fact and detailed that the doctor attacked is Michael Idárraga González and that the incident occurred within the hospital facilities, apparently by a patient’s companion.

These behaviors “are unacceptable and go against all the principles of benevolence that should surround health personnel,” Aesa said in a statement, in which it also expressed that these situations continue to arise due to the ignorance of the companions of the patients and a culture of intolerance towards doctors.

The serious thing, in consideration of the association of hospitals, is that the facts continue to be presented “without society learning to respect those who are its servants and they are there to provide the best possible care in the circumstances that the health system allows.”

For this reason, they raised the call to the judicial authorities of Rionegro to act forcefully in this case, in order to avoid impunity and prevent these attacks from continuing to occur. Among his criticisms, Aesa indicated that this is partly due to the “lack of action by the relevant authorities.”
