(AFP, Los Angeles, 22nd) “Doctor Strange: The Runaway Multiverse” continued to dominate the North American box office with regarding $31.6 million over the weekend, while “Downton Abbey: A New Generation” Dangtang was the runner-up.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) has earned a total of $342 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $461 million in overseas revenue. The global box office totaled $803 million.
“Downton Abbey: A New Era” had a solid $16 million.
“It’s an excellent opening,” said David A. Gross, director of Franchise Entertainment Research, a film business consultancy. He also noticed that nearly half of the ticket-buying audience for “Downton Abbey: A New Generation” are over 55 years old (inclusive).
Coming in at No. 3 between the 20th and 22nd was the action-comedy cartoon “The Bad Guys,” which took in $6.1 million.
Family-friendly film “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” slipped one spot to No. 4 since last weekend, earning $3.9 million.
At No. 5 was the latest horror film “Men”, which grossed $3.3 million. The film, directed by “artificial consciousness” Alex Garland and starring Jessie Buckley, scored a rare D+ on film review site CinemaScore.
Movies No. 6 to No. 10, in order: “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” $3.1 million; “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” $190 $10,000; “Firestarter,” $1.9 million; “The Lost City,” $1.5 million; “The Northman,” $1 million.
