Russia – Women often suffer from pain throughout the body, which is a symptom of the difficult-to-treat disease fibromyalgia.
Dr. Alexander Myasnikov explains how women can help themselves in this situation.
According to him, fibromyalgia is characterized by the fact that the person suffering from it feels as if he was beaten or did intense exercise, and the next morning he wakes up from sleep and his body hurts.
The doctor points out that chronic fatigue syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome often accompany this disease.
“You don’t know how to treat it,” he says. Nor where it comes from. It’s a normal disease, isn’t it? However, every fifth woman suffers from it. Yes, most patients are women. “It is a very common disease.”
According to him, doctors often confuse this disease with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and other diseases. There is no inflammation in fibromyalgia, so there is no need for anti-inflammatory medications. Doctors believe that following exposure to trauma – such as illness, injury, infection, or stress – pain receptors are reconfigured so that they begin to signal pain even when health is normal.
He points out that, following the doctor diagnoses the disease, he prescribes medications used to treat nerve pain to the patient.
He says: “Of course you must move, Pilates exercises – a fitness system, Tai chi exercises, and also yoga help.”
According to him, a person suffering from this disease should know that he is not sick, even though his body hurts.
He says: “This disease does not affect life expectancy in any way, and is not a risk factor for contracting any disease. It is also not associated with diseases of the bones, muscles and joints. That is, we must get used to living with pain and overcoming it.”
