Doctolib: a new secure messaging system

Doctolib, the leading platform in France for making medical appointments, is regarding to unveil a new string to its bow. Around the start of the 2023 school year, it will offer secure messaging allowing patients to contact their doctors directly. This innovation aims to facilitate exchanges, while guaranteeing the confidentiality of the information exchanged.

This Doctolib “Patient Messaging” is designed for non-urgent exchanges. It will not replace traditional medical consultations or be used to obtain medical reports. Its main objective is to simplify certain procedures, such as refilling prescriptions for patients suffering from chronic illnesses.

The doctors wanted this messaging

This feature was not developed lightly. It responds to a request from practitioners themselves, concerned with centralizing and securing contact requests from their patients. Indeed, until now, these requests were dispersed on several channels: e-mails, telephone calls, SMS, etc. With this messaging offered by Doctolib, everything is grouped together in one place, thus facilitating the management of exchanges.

But that’s not all. Practitioners will also be able to send prevention messages or information on the organization of their practice to their patients. This function has already been tested in Italy, reaching nearly 500,000 users with targeted campaigns, such as the flu vaccination.

How to access the email on Doctolib?

The implementation of this messaging service is planned for the fall of 2023, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Doctolib. Users will be notified of changes via email, and new conditions d’utilisation will come into force on September 4, 2023. It is therefore essential to remain attentive to the communications of the platform to benefit from this innovation as soon as it is launched.

For patients, the use of this messaging system will be intuitive. All you have to do is connect to your Doctolib account and look for the section dedicated to messaging. However, it must be understood that only practitioners with whom the patient has already had an appointment will be accessible via this messaging system.
