It is a defeat for the left as a whole. Many socialist and environmental voters voted Mélenchon in view of the polls and in the name of “useful voting”. But it didn’t help. In a two-round presidential system, if the left is not united from the first, it is doomed to failure.
This is the state of mind at the PS on Monday where we are convinced that if all the left formations had accepted a single primary and appointed a common candidate, the French PS would be in the second round today ahead of Macron.
