Do I approve with a surname?: the debate in the ruling party for the plebiscite campaign | National

In the ruling party they have been – weeks ago – in meetings for the Approval campaign. However, differences in emphasis and in the existence -or not- of approval with a surname take up the debate.

In the expanded political committee on Monday, one of the key issues for the government coalitions was addressed: the Approval campaign, where the ruling party debates whether to carry out a campaign with surnames.

With two ministers less, the traditional expanded political committee was held on Mondays, which began almost half an hour late, since both the presidents of the ruling parties and the secretaries of state were watching the closing ceremony of the Constitutional Convention.

There was a presentation by the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, on tax reform and then he addressed approval campaign.

Sources from both coalitions reported that the differences become more acute over time. This for two reasons: there are those who do not want the slogan “I approve with surnames” and others who seek to fully reach the undecided with a more moderate discourse.

After the meeting we spoke with the president of the Liberal Party, Patricio Morales, who maintained that I approve of Dignity will have a band and they -like Democratic Socialism- will also have a unified one.

Although he ruled out that there are “2 souls”, he confirmed that the differences have been complex.

For her part, the president of the PPD, Natalia Piergentilli, said that there is a difference even within the same coalitions in terms of emphasis, because they speak to different niches and seek to reveal other types of content.

The “second period” of the expanded political committee was taking place, when President Gabriel Boric led a meeting with the other powers of state to discuss the information campaign for the plebiscite.

The president of the Senate, the PS Álvaro Elizalde, called on all the actors to be up to the process and assured that the campaign must be developed on the basis of the text and not on other secondary aspects.

His peer from the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto (PPD) agreed, who assured that what they seek is to guarantee impartiality so that the process develops in total normality and on September 4 there is a party of democracy.

In addition, he appreciated that President Gabriel Boric ratified his openness to making improvements to the text in chaos before it is approved, which -in his opinion- is a very good sign for the undecided.

For his part, Juan Eduardo Fuentes, president of the Supreme Court, assured that he will not play any role because one of the fundamental principles of the rule of law is that the PJ maintains its impartiality and independence.
