The National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) confiscated 338 packages, presumably of cocaine, off the coast of the Barahona province and 270 sheets of cocaine, seized at the Caucedo Multimodal Port, in the municipality of Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province.

In the first operation, two men of Dominican nationality were arrested and handed over to the Public Ministry of Barahona, to learn of coercive measures in the next few hours, for violation of Law 50-88, on drugs and controlled substances.

The anti-narcotics agency, following receiving intelligence reports that several individuals aboard a speedboat (Go Fast type), with no name or registration, intended to introduce an undetermined amount of narcotic substances, mounted an area denial operation and proceeded to Immediately mobilize naval, air and ground units.

Hours later, they managed to intervene several nautical miles south of the Enriquillo coast, a boat with two men on board, who upon noticing the presence of the units, proceeded to throw the bales into the waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Subsequently, the operational teams carried out search work throughout the area, and managed to recover 11 bales, containing 338 packages of the substance inside, which is presumed to be cocaine.

In addition, the operation seized the 23-foot-long vessel with two outboard motors of 75 and 60 horsepower respectively, three GPS, several fuel jugs, a tarpaulin, life jackets, and other evidence.

The DNCD spokesman, Carlos Devers, stressed that in this alone, the authorities have seized 4,129 kilograms (4.1 tons) of cocaine, marijuana, heroin, crack, ecstasy and other controlled substances.

He said that the 338 packages seized in this new operation were sent under chain of custody, to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) that will determine the exact type and weight of the substance.

Likewise, DNCD agents confiscated 270 sheets, presumably cocaine, during an operation carried out in the aforementioned terminal in the municipality of Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province.

State security agencies were inspecting dozens of containers that would be shipped to Rotterdam when they detected strange substances in hundreds of boxes loaded with bananas.

Subsequently, in the presence of a prosecutor, the action protocol was initiated, discovering a double bottom in the containers, with some 270 sheets, presumably cocaine, weighing approximately 71 kilograms.

The Public Ministry and the DNCD expand the investigations to apprehend and bring to justice the members of drug trafficking networks, who use these modalities to introduce drugs into Europe.

Devers said that in relation to the frustrated international drug trafficking operation, the authorities are deepening the investigations and hope to offer more details as the process progresses.
