The Dutch Bank (DNB) has temporarily moved its premises from Harlem to the city of Zeist for renovation. An exceptional move that will have required exceptional logistics given the value of the items to be moved. Indeed, in its premises in Harlem (outskirts of Amsterdam), the DNB had in its walls in its safe nearly 15 billion euros of gold bars, gold coins and banknotes. Money that has been channeled to the new DNB Cash Center (DCC) in Zeist for the past four weeks, as the bank said in a press release.
In the detail of the figures, there were more than 200 tons of gold bars and gold coins to move. These were worth 10.4 billion euros. This represents 14,166 gold bars of approximately 12.5 kg each and 1,006 bags and cases of gold coins.
The stock of banknotes was worth more than 4.5 billion euros.
An exceptional operation which took place under the security of the Royal Military Police, in collaboration with the Dutch police and the defence.
The renovation of the headquarters in Amsterdam is expected to be completed by 2024. Now that the gold is in Zeist, the building will be accessible to the public.
