After two serious violent crimes in Eskilstuna this weekend, the police have decided to introduce so-called security zones or visitation zones there. At 3 pm on Tuesday, the police held a press conference about the decision.
– The signals must be sent strongly and clearly. Now we have the safety zone tool in our toolbox and therefore we choose to use it, said Mattias Forssten, police area manager Södermanland at the press conference.
The decision applies to two areas from midnight, the night of Wednesday. One includes the districts of Årby and Skiftinge. The other includes Nyfors, Myrtorp, Fröslunda, Råbergstorp and Lagersberg.
– It may be relevant to reconsider the decision, to either revoke the decision earlier but it may also, depending on the situation, be relevant to extend it further, said Robert Åkerström, acting local police area manager Eskilstuna.
The safety zones may also change geographically, depending on what is happening in the municipality. According to the police, the goal of the measure is to prevent new shootings.
