Djokovic will not rush –

Serbian Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon winner, has said he will only play in this year’s tournament if he is “ready to go far and fight for the title,” following uncertainty over his physical condition following the knee injury he suffered at Roland Garros three weeks ago.

Djokovic underwent meniscus surgery 19 days ago following injuring his knee in his Roland Garros round of 16 win over Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo.

Despite the operation and the prognosis that he would be out of action for three weeks, Djokovic appeared a few days later riding a stationary bike, before picking up his racket and practising on hard courts.

After testing the courts at Aorangi Park for the first time on Sunday, the Serbian returned to the All England Club on Monday to train alongside Argentine Federico Coria for two hours.

After training, the Belgrade native, who is wearing a protective suit on his knee and another on his forearm, spoke to the media at Wimbledon.

“I’m not surprised. The plan was to try to play Wimbledon, so that’s what I’m doing. That’s why I came here to train and see how it goes,” Djokovic said.

“I can’t give too many details, but it’s going well. The rehabilitation is going in the right direction every day. Little by little, I’m getting better. That’s what’s giving me hope and the desire to continue. I still have a week ahead of me, enough time. I’m going to do my best to find out how I am before the draw is made,” he explained.

Djokovic, who has played in the last five finals of the tournament and won four of them – he lost the last one once morest Carlos Alcaraz – will find out his rivals on Friday, and confirmed that if he plays in the tournament it is because he sees himself with a chance of advancing. – EFE
