Serbian Novak Djokovic won the French Roland Garros Championship, the second Grand Slam tournament in tennis, by defeating Norwegian Casper Rudd 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday in the final, to set the record for the number of major titles. With 23 titles following he was equal with Spain’s Rafael Nadal.

The title is Djokovic’s third in the French capital following 2016 and 2021, and he has also become the oldest player (36 years old) to be crowned champion at Roland Garros. The Serbian also became one major title away from the record in the men’s and women’s categories, which was registered on behalf of Australian Margaret Court (24 titles). Ironically, the Serb won 11 of his 23 major titles following he was over 30 years old.

Djokovic also became the first player in history to win the Grand Slam title at least 3 times, and he needs to be crowned at Wimbledon next month and Flushing Meadows to equal the achievement of Australian legend Rod Laver, who won it all in one year (1969).

Also, with this coronation, Djokovic will regain first place in the world rankings for professional players, which will be issued on Monday by Spaniard Carlos Alcaras, who lost to him in the semi-finals.

Djokovic also achieved his fifth victory in five confrontations that brought him together with Ruud so far.
