Novak Djokovic showed glimpses of his best form with a 6-1 6-3 6-3 victory over Diego Schwartzman to advance to the French Open quarter-finals, where he is likely to clash with 13-times champion Rafael Nadal.
The world number one was much better than Argentinian Schwartzman, who almost did not threaten his Serbian opponent despite taking a 3-0 lead at the start of the second set.
From this point on, the match became a one-way match and Djokovic won 12 of 15 games at Susan Lenglen Court.
“I respect him a lot,” Djokovic said of Schwartzman, who reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros in 2020.
“I felt that my serve was good at the right moments,” he added.
The match came out completely differently from their confrontation at Roland Garros in 2017, when Djokovic rebounded after falling two sets and qualified for the fourth round.
