DJI seeks to make people forget the bad memory of the Osmo Action 2 with a homecoming.
Yes theaction cam Osmo Action 2 clashed, she finally showed frank limits on the ground. Odds that DJI is trying to overcome with the Osmo Action 3, which is in line with the straightest lineage of the first edition, dated 2019.
Say goodbye to modularity
What distinguished the Osmo Action 2 from the competition, and in particular from the GoPro, was its extensive modular aspect. Unfortunately, the counterpart of this design pushed the camera towards rapid heating and some concessions that the sportsmen concerned with this type of product did not appreciate. However, with the Osmo Action 3, DJI makes a clean sweep.
Similar to the first Osmo Action of the name, this new model adopts a 12 megapixel 1/1.7″ (ƒ/2.8) CMOS sensor capable of filming in 4K at 120 frames (3840 x 2160 pixels) per second with a field of 155° ultra-wide-angle vision (equivalent to 12.7 mm on a full-frame sensor). There are also other capture modes such as 4K at 60 fps (4096 x 3072 pixels), or 2.7K at 120 fps (2688 x 1512 pixels).
Compact (70 x 44 x 31.8 mm for 145 grams), the camera offers effective stabilization thanks to technologies well known to drone enthusiasts: Rocksteady and HorizonSteady. It is also waterproof up to 16 meters without the need for a dedicated case. Thus equipped, it will however be able to go down to 60 meters deep.
The Osmo Action 3 also finds its interest in photography, where it is able to produce JPG or RAW files in 4000 x 3000 pixels.
Increased autonomy
One of the main complaints once morest the previous model was its disappointing autonomy. DJI wants to put the odds on its side this time and offers its action cam a 1,770 mAh battery ( once morest only 580 mAh on the Action 2). Thanks to it, the brand promises up to 160 minutes of shooting on a single charge. What’s more, it adopts fast charging compatibility which recovers 80% in 18 minutes and only takes 50 minutes to fully charge.
In terms of functionality, the camera has two touch screens (one on each side), and is therefore particularly suitable for vlogging. In addition to the different capture modes available (timelapse, invisiStick, etc.), the Osmo Action 3 can also be used as a webcam for videoconferences in ultra wide-angle mode.
The Osmo Action 3 is available today in the following two editions:
- Osmo Action 3 Standard Combo : 359€
- Osmo Action 3 Adventure Combo (inclus 3x batteries) : 459€
As usual with the manufacturer, many accessories such as poles, harnesses or lens protections are also marketed.
