DJI launches the Osmo Mobile 6, its new external stabilizer for smartphones

The Chinese brand DJI has just announced the release of its new model of stabilizer for smartphones, the Osmo Mobile 6, which includes a number of improvements compared to its previous version.

The Chinese brand specializing in drones and video hardware has just released a new version of its series of external stabilizers dedicated to smartphones : the Osmo Mobile 6, one year following the previous version. An object intended for a wider audience than the range RS 3 of the manufacturer, dedicated to larger video equipment.

Always more possibilities

Only one year separates the Osmo Mobile 5 and 6 but the improvements made by DJI are very present in the latest model. This one, in addition to having a more ergonomic handle to facilitate the handling of its more than 300 grams, offers extended access to the largest smartphones and provides better motorized stabilization on three axes, allowing to film better images and a greater freedom of movement.

Big addition for iPhone owners, they can now benefit from a quick launch of the camera since the Osmo Mobile 6 and its Mimo application will instantly recognize the device once attached to the stabilizer. Meanwhile, ActiveTrack 5.0 offers improved, more stable subject tracking over longer distances than its previous version.

Four stabilization modes are accessible directly from the stabilizer:

  • Tracking: Which tracks the pans and tilts of the gimbal on which your smartphone is attached, but not the rolls.
  • Tilt lock: Which only follows the panning movements of the gimbal and not the rest.
  • FPV: Allows the three axes of the gimbal to follow the movements of the handle.
  • SpinShot: Which allows you to control the rotation of the camera with a small integrated joystick.

Speaking of joystick, a small side wheel is present on the Osmo Mobile 6, allowing to control the zoom level and focus. Convenient for filming in all situations and for using the stabilizer’s smart features. These also allow you to create timelapses, to use the DynamicZoom to have effects of stretching or compressing the image or even three different panoramic modes.

With this smartphone stabilizer, you can also access the brand’s official application, Mimo. This gives you access to tutorials on the different options of the stabilizer to learn quickly and easily how to use it. DJI also highly recommends using the AI-assisted editing app, LightCut. Finally, there is once once more the ShotGuides function, which automatically recognizes what you are trying to do and recommends which shots to film next.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 6 is available on the official DJI online store for €169 and will soon arrive via other sales channels.
