And unfortunately, what is emerging so far is that his death could have been avoided. Yesterday, the Halkidiki prosecutor’s office accepted his father’s request to have the machine checked by a specialist technician. With what has been known so far, it appears that the fatal toy was self-made by stitching together parts, without any certification.
The 19-year-old’s father requested an examination by an expert, who is in a private company that certifies recreational machines, and the request was approved by the Appeals Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki.
Also, according to the expert of the Halkidiki Prosecutor’s Office, the 19-year-old’s injury was caused by the breakage of the metal base of the toy cabin. The breakage came because it was old, i.e. due to aging and corrosion of the machine and not because of the speed it had. Speed certainly plays a role in the fact that the child fell to the ground at high speed and lost his life.
The expert appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office of Halkidiki, in his conclusions, also mentions that it is a self-made construction with parts sewn together, which he says means that those who made the machine could have prevented any accident because they knew that it would break machine because they did the construction themselves.
The prosecution’s investigation is expanding and concerns three parallel cases. One axis is the death of the child and the circumstances under which it occurred. The second assumption is the operating status of the amusement park for this year and a third assumption is that it is checked for all the past, for all previous periods, how it got a license to operate and if it had certifications and the relevant documents.
It is possible that public officials may be called by the Municipality as well as by other agencies to testify, and of course engineers, experts and all those who know something about this very sad case.
