FILM The Art of Understanding a Lover is a romantic comedy drama film adapted from the popular book entitled An Art to Understand a Lover by Agus ‘Magelangan’ Mulyadi. This film offers an immersive cinematic experience, discussing the twists and turns of the journey of love in a way that touches the heart and stirs the emotions.
The Art of Understanding Your Lover stars a line-up of talented young actors and actresses including Elang El Gibran, Febby Rastanty, Devina Aureel and Sisca Saras.
The film tells the love story of the writer, Agus, and his wife, Kalis Mardiasih. As a couple who are both involved in the world of writing, they face various challenges in their love relationship.
Agus, who is known as a comedy writer with a relaxed writing style and often raises viral issues, is at odds with Kalis, a more serious writer who focuses on social and women’s issues.
Their relationship began to falter when Kalis was haunted by the trauma experienced by her best friend, Rahayu, due to domestic violence.
The trauma made Kalis distance herself from Agus, until Agus finally felt tired and decided to end their relationship. Kalis had to face deep regret, until she finally learned the concept of soulmates from her father.

With a touch of light comedy, this film is able to bring laughter amidst a touching story.
Jeihan Angga, the director, revealed that the process of making this film required close cooperation between himself and the writer in order to create an authentic and interesting film.
“This is not just an interpretation of someone else’s work or something that has already been written. I always chat with Mbak Kalis and Mas Agus to make sure, ‘Is this really happening in your real life?’ For example, yes, no, but we still make it so that it is not far from your real life,” said Agus at a press conference in Kuningan, Jakarta.

Agus Mulyadi also emphasized that this film presents the reality of love life that often occurs in Indonesian society.
“In this film, we try to expose the inability side, because in Indonesia there are many like that. Many young men who propose must wear fancy clothes, give gifts, and so on. That’s why here we show people who propose using old cars and gifts that are only chickens, and that happens in many Indonesian communities. I think stories like this should be spread to people,” he said.
This film tells a love story that is often experienced by young people who are in love.
