The images of Alexis Jandard’s spectacular fall under the gaze of French President Emmanuel Macron went viral, as did the ironic explanations offered by the French diver.
Alexis Jandard was participating in a diving demonstration when he slipped on the diving board before falling backwards into the water.
All this under the gaze of Emmanuel Macron and the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, who came to inaugurate the Olympic Games Aquatic Center in Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of Paris.
The athlete, who suffered a small scratch on his back, reacted with humor to his misfortune. “It’s time to tease me,” he commented on Instagram.
“Everything is fine, I didn’t get hurt. There was a little blood but it’s not serious, that won’t stop me from training this followingnoon. I had a little carelessness in my leg that made me fall. “I fell in front of the President of the Republic, I fell in front of all of France.”
The 26-year-old diver, qualified for the Paris Games in the 3-meter synchronized event, published a photo of the scratches on his back.
French Olympic diver Alexis Jandard, 26, slipped and fell into the water as athletes performed in the inauguration ceremony of an Olympic aquatics centre north of Paris yesterday. In reply, he said: “Thanks for the support! For your information, my back is fine, but my ego…” pic.twitter.com/jtCcyyATfl
